Our Day of Giving

Our day of giving was a very rewarding and successful day! We collected more goods than we had anticipated... here are the donations we were able to give thanks to the support of our friends and family...
4 grocery bags full of non-perishable food - Donated to Save-On-Foods, who will donate to a local food bank.
8 garbage bags FULL of women and mens clothing and accessories - Donated to Mennonite Central Committee.
5 garbage bags FULL of bed linens and towels. - Donated to Gather and Give by Dream Designs on Commericial Drive (they participate in collecting donations twice a year).
40 Scarves - Donated to an Aboriginal Womens Shelter.

We cannot thank everyone enough for all their donations, time and contributions during this month of giving.
Thank you to all of you! This day would not have been as successful without your generosity...
*Chad (Amanda's husband)*
*Natalie (friend)*
*Andrew (friend)*
*Jolee (Amanda's Cousin)*
*Rosie (Amanda's Mother-in Law)*
*Leanne (Megan's Mom)*
*Ashley (friend)*
*Staff at Henderson Elementary*
*And a special thanks to Gordon (Megan's Dad) for letting us cruise in the Element during this day of giving*

As 2007 is a year for a new awareness, we have decided to have a day of giving every month. At the beginning of each month we will post a new organization that is in need of donations and work towards another very successful day of giving!

Our Latest Knitting Party

We have 30 Scarves completed. This does not account for the ones that wonderful people still have to donate. My guess is we will make it to 40, but you never know! I just want to give an early THANKS to everyone who has participated and helped us in achieving our goal.
Saturday is coming... Our Day of Giving. We're rounding up all our scarves and other goods to donate to some Worthy Organizations. We are still deciding what organizations, so feel free to make suggestions.
Since it is winding towards the end of February, the month of giving, and you have donated you time, your goods, your blood or anything else, let us know. Your giving, whatever it may be, deserves to be heard!

The Eyes of a Child

If you stop and look into the eyes of a child, you can see all the beauty and peace that we enter this world with. You can see the belief that we live in a world where we take care of one another. It is the beauty and innoncence of these eyes that lifts my soul and re-adjusts my perspective, for we live in one world and we must all work to make a better tomorrow.

New Society Publishers

I was working at a school when a teacher told me about this book she was using with her class, 'Change the World for Ten Bucks. 50 Actions to Change the World.' I wanted this book for myself. On my search I came across the publishing company, which only publishes books that have something important to say "books to walk the talk." Some headlines include Activism, Globalization and Sustainable Living, amongst many many more. Take a look for yourself... under 'Knowledge is Power.'

Our progress...

We're doing great! So far we have knit 20 scarves. Yes, there are still 30 more to knit for us to meet our goal of 50, but with some sweat and tears, we'll get there.

To create some motivation, I had a knitting party over the weekend. We were able to finish two scarves and get a good start on a third one. Not only did we knit, but shared ourselves and our thoughts with each other over wine and food. The atmosphere was filled with a positive energy. Our thoughts turned to ideas... ideas that we will turn into actions.

Take a look at the link under the heading "Use Your Voice." HEADSTAND is an up and coming publication that is looking for people to share their thoughts...

Our Challenge for Februrary

Happy February to Everyone!
The month of love. Our challenge for February is Giving.

Our own personal challenge is to knit 50 scarves and donate them to two different women's shelters. We want others to join and help us achieve this goal. You can join us by donating hand-knit scarves or by donating wool to us or someone you know who can knit, then donate the finished scarf.
We have designated February 24th as our Day of Giving. On this day we will go to our chosen shelters and drop off our donations. Anyone is free to ride along and join us.

Other Ideas for Giving:
1. Give blood
2. Donate clothing to shelters. Check out our links below under Worthy Organizations.
3. Donate nonperishable food to a local Food Bank.
4. Help to create and distribute bag lunches to our Neighbors living on the streets.
We want to know what your challenge is, so send it to us and we will can post it for everyone to see.
