September is a great time to do a challenge like this one. The summer is coming to an end, we've all spent more than we should have through travelling and being busy. Now it's time to give back.
The point of this challenge is to give what you can. If all of us just gave a little and we did it together, the turn out would be significant. We're asking you to be mindful and aware of who you give your money to and why.
Here's some tips and ideas on how to save your cents:
1. Pick a charity or cause that inspires you. By doing this before you start, you might be more inclined to actually save.
2. Ask some friends to join you... the more the better!
3. Find an empty jar or container and put it somewhere you will see. This will give your memory a jolt and remind you to put all your cents away.
4. Pick up any loose change on the ground. Your donation will be larger.
4. At the end of everyday, empty your pockets, wallet or change purse into your money jar.
Just think... If you've saved $15 through your change by the end of the month, you've made someone elses life a little brighter. Every penny counts!
A story of inspiration:
Two challengers, Brent and Karlee, have been saving their change of over two years. They started saving their pennies because they wanted to make a donation to a specific charity - an orphanage in Romania. They spoke to others about the orphanage, picked up loose change on the streets and hosted parties with a change container for people to empty their pockets. Brent and Karlee have now saved and raised over $500 USD. They have now left for Europe to live in the Ukraine and planned to stop in Romania to drop off their change.
Thank you Brent and Karlee!
